Clothes Some fibres can cause irritation and provoke itching, cotton is the best choice of fibre for most people who suffer from a Skin Flare-Up of eczema or dermatitis because it is soft and cool. Get the right size; too loose and skin can rub together, too tight and the clothes can become abrasive. Avoid 'crease-free', 'non-iron','static' or 'flame resistant' fabrics because the chemical treatments used can cause Skin Flare-Up. Choose clothing that can be washed at a high temperature - at least 60º, this should kill allergy-causing dust mites, along with their droppings. Perfumes in washing products like fabric conditioner, may provoke a reaction. Avoid these or find a product that suits you best. People with skin prone to flare ups tend to use non-biological washing detergent as the enzymes in bio-washing powder can irritate the skin. |
